New Moon Dance this Saturday!

JPG New Moon DanceThis Saturday, June 28th, learn to flirt the old fashioned way – community singing and dancing at Dewey Memorial Hall on Main Street in Sheffield.

Here’s the order of events:
singing school 4:30 – 6:30 pm
potluck supper 6:30 – 7:30 pm
contra dancing 7:30 – 11:00 pm

Contra dancing is a form of social dancing — like square dancing, but better. Everyone is welcome, regardless of experience level.

$8 students | $10 adults | max. $25 for families with children under 12

The Sacred Harp is a hymnal, first published in the 1840s, containing a wide variety of sacred music with roots in folk songs, fiddle tunes, ballads, plainsong… The book features “shaped note” notation, a system invented in Albany in 1802 to help people learn how to read music.  The terms “Sacred Harp” or “Shaped Note” now refer to the style of music associated with the hymnal (which was last republished in 1991).  All levels of experience (and inexperience) are welcome.
