New Moon Dance this Saturday!

JPG New Moon DanceThis Saturday, June 28th, learn to flirt the old fashioned way – community singing and dancing at Dewey Memorial Hall on Main Street in Sheffield.

Here’s the order of events:
singing school 4:30 – 6:30 pm
potluck supper 6:30 – 7:30 pm
contra dancing 7:30 – 11:00 pm

Contra dancing is a form of social dancing — like square dancing, but better. Everyone is welcome, regardless of experience level.

$8 students | $10 adults | max. $25 for families with children under 12

The Sacred Harp is a hymnal, first published in the 1840s, containing a wide variety of sacred music with roots in folk songs, fiddle tunes, ballads, plainsong… The book features “shaped note” notation, a system invented in Albany in 1802 to help people learn how to read music.  The terms “Sacred Harp” or “Shaped Note” now refer to the style of music associated with the hymnal (which was last republished in 1991).  All levels of experience (and inexperience) are welcome. 7:30-8:00  Family dance: dances geared toward children and beginners.

No experience necessary.  Fun for all ages.

Announcing: Band and Caller for Spring Fever Dance

Folks, we have a band! And a caller!
The Spring Fever Dance will be called by Eric Hollman and we’ll enjoy music from David Paton‘s band, Wildcat Creek.
To kick off this new dance series we’re going ALL OUT! The evening of Saturday, March 23rd will include singing, dancing, and a pot luck.
4:30-6:00 Community singing.
Folk songs, show tunes, and rounds. All ages welcome
6:00-7:00 Pot luck supper. 
Please bring your own plates and utensils, and a dish to share
7:00-8:00 Instruction and Family Dancing 
Great for beginning dancers of all ages
8:00-11:00 Contra and Square Dances
